Vision Technology
This program provides South Carolina residents who are uninsured or under-insured with various forms of low vision equipment for household activities or workplace development, such as apps and handheld magnifiers, iPads with accessibility software, computer software, CCTVs, wearable devices, and high speed/high resolution cameras through e-sight.

Empowering the blind and visually impaired to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives often requires a variety of approaches and resources. Many individuals living with a permanent vison disability require assistance to maintain their independence and continue navigating the workforce. Research has validated the effectiveness of vision technology in meeting these needs. Today’s technological advances have produced an array of tools that can significantly improve the quality of life of blind and visually impaired persons.
LVS Vision Technology
The LVS Vision Technology program was launched in 2018 in collaboration with the Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina to address a growing need for blind and visually impaired persons who need various forms of low vision equipment for household activities or workplace development. LVS utilizes partnerships with vendors, doctors, and donors to build an inventory of vision technology solutions and a referral system for clients who may need these resources.
Vision technology varies greatly in cost and functionality based on the individual needs of each client. All clients meet with a physician to determine the exact needs and most practical prescriptions for each client after which LVS provides the equipment needed on either a long-term or permanent loan at no cost to the client.
Some examples of vision technology include apps and handheld magnifiers, iPads with accessibility software, computer software, CCTVs, wearable devices, and high speed/high resolution cameras through e-sight.
